In this week's Absolute Shocker we have a couple of issues that are not as obvious as the 4m fall risk to the man standing on the roof.

  • Working below another person puts you at risk of being struck by falling material or tools.
  • The elevating work platform (EWP) has been setup in a laneway that is used regularly during day, without any form of traffice management in place.

On the positive side, they have gone and sourced what appears to be suitable EWP for the task with an extendable platform to reach the work.

They also appear to take sun protection seriously with both men wearing long sleeve shirts and broad-brim hats.

When we opened the first of the series of pictures of this we knew that telling the story would be easy.

With a working platform comprising of a softwood timber pallet raised up on a forklift, with two straight aluminium ladders decked with sheets of ply, what more could we add.

Then we opened some more images and discovered Groucho here, pushing about 200 kg of demolition rubble into his wheelbarrow.

Add his 80-90 kg fram and the live-load is close to 300 kg.

Two industrial rated ladders used correctly wouldn't support half that amount, let alone laid flat and spanned somewhere close to three metres.
